Question about air impact guns?

Do impact guns have a built in torque setting? So when it reaches a certain torque, say 80lbs it just cuts out?

When doing high torquing with a air impact gun, will it wrench your wrist/arm if you dont hold it proper? I have a dewalt 14.4 cordless screwdriver xrp where if you dont holt it properly, it will break your wrist.

What are some things to look for with a good quality impact gun?

What are some things to avoid when purchasing one?

Any recommendations for a good middle of the road air impact gun to handle automotive (axle nuts, crankshaft bolts, lug nuts, etc. etc.)

Most of the impacts has torque setting.. The cheaper ones will have a low amount of setting though, better ones will have more settings..

Impacts has a clutch/ratchet system to stop the anvil (end where socket is) from turning when bolt gets to the set torque of impact.

Most of the times though, its a give/take.. You can’t dail in the amount of torque you want.. Your left with what the gun has for each setting

It’s not gonna break your wrist unless your very weak.. What it can do though is jump out of your hand if you have a strong impact and a loose grip on it.

For gen auto work like you mentioned, you will want atleast 350 ft lbs

I bought a cheap $17 240 ft lbs one when I 1st got my compressor and started buying my tool.. It worked ok but everynow and then I would get a lug that it wouldn’t remove

I stepped up to a still off brand, pretty cheap ($90) 625 ft lbs one and love it. I removed all the suspension bolts from my camaro with it, lugs, pulley bolts, etc etc.

The only thing I came up against so far that it wouldnt remove was 2 bolts on a U haul towing hitch that was put onto a cars frame by U haul.

Here’s the one I have, and one I would recommend for you
