why is 6-point socket wrench and power handle preferable to use loosening cylinder head bolts or stud nuts?
Hi Rhenzsas, it has to do with exposing maximum available bolt head area to the wrench surface . The 6 point socket or combination wrench allows a much greater contact area versus a 12 point wrench. This is very important on high torque fasteners to prevent damage to the fastener head. The power handle or breaker bar is a simple, strong,specially designed hand tool which allows greater leverage and torque advantage due to it added length and absense of internal ratchet feature which could fail in high torque applications. Save the 12 point wrenches and wratchets for low torque jobs that are hard to access or require a greater degree of finnesse to manipulate. Hope this helps you out. Happy wrenching..
