Wrench Metric
In most cases can you get by with only a set of metric tools?
I have been told by a mechanic that he only gets metric tools because most cars including American ones have metric nuts and bolts etc. He said if the car does he standard there’s a corresponding metric e.g. 5/8 = 16mm, 11mm=7/16, 1/2=13mm. While the standard aren’t exact fit they’ll work. Should I get a set of standard wrenches or rely on the metric set?
There are many more standard sizes that don’t have a metric equivalent than ones that do. The 1/2″ and 13mm and the 3/4″ and 19mm are the only commonly used ones that will generally interchange with a reasonable fit.
Although the metric set will more than likely be used more often, if you’re performing a lot of mechanical work, you will find that you need both sets of wrenches.
