How can I loosen the Serpentine belt on my 96′ Ford Taurus?
I took outmy alt. without loosening the belt, I’m having a tough time putting it back without loosening it. I cannot get to the tensioner, I’ve tried with an open ended wrench(couldn’t get it on cause of the angle), same with a closed ended wrench,same with an adjustable wrench, I’ve tried a socket wrench (could’nt get it on cause the wrench and socket were to wide).
Some of those tensioners are a real pain to get at, true enough. In the past I have used a pry bar to push on the tensioner when i didn’t have the special tool. And you don’t loosen the belt on these cars, you just push on the tensioner to make enough slack in the belt to allow removal.
