How to monitor Internet use at home?
I'm living with roommates in rented rooms. We have an Internet connection that is provided by the owner of the house using a router. Since the day my roommate began to live with me, the Internet connection is become ugly. I think my friend downloaded movie torrents every day but would never admit. Is it possible that I can monitor Internet usage my friend that I have proof to say to reduce the amount of download?
Find out what operating system and your friend anti-virus/malware/spyware. If your friend has a PC and the operating system earlier than XP, for example, that computer is likely to be wide open in terms of security, and is probably part of a bot-net or something even more harmful. Since you probably do not administrator privileges for the router, you will not be able to control bandwidth. However, you can perform a simple experiment. Wait that your friend is gone, turn off their computers (or disconnect their ethernet cable if you do not use WiFi) and Gage your internet speed. Check even when he / she is using their machine.
