How To Use A Upholstery Stapler In Your Project For The Best Results

Are you doing a new furniture project in your home? Would you just love to change the fabric on your chairs? Does your carpet need replacing? If you answer “yes” to any of the above questions then during the course of your project you will undoubtedly need the flexibility and usability of a upholstery stapler. This handy little tool really means the difference between a high quality fit and finish and one that looks second rate. If you don’t have one you might find yourself going it by hand and not getting the desired results or finish you want. Upholstery Staplers come in all different brands and models but the two major types are pneumatic upholstery staplers and electric upholstery staplers.

A pneumatic upholstery stapler works primarily from the use of an air compressor. The stapler, when connected to the proper air compressor, will staple at a higher velocity than the use of an electric upholstery stapler. A higher velocity for the staple can always be needed based on the job or project you are doing. However, since the pneumatic variety uses an air compressor, if you don’t have one already this can dramatically increase the cost for you. Most pneumatic upholstery staplers are going to need somewhere between 80 and 95 pounds of pressure so make sure your air compressor you have will hit 80 pounds to be safe. Make sure you also buy a straight hose and quick release clamps to ensure accurate compatibility. If all you are be doing is relatively light work (essentially small repair) then an electric upholstery stapler could be your best bet.

The electric upholstery stapler is going to provide a small amount of pressure to the staples thus not very all that useful for a complete chair recovering. The cost of entry however is quite a bit deal lower than going with a pneumatic upholstery stapler since you do not have the added cost of an air compressor. The convenience of an electric unit comes from simply plugging the stapler into the wall

With either of the two types of staplers you will always want to go with a fine wire 7 series for the actual staples themselves. The reason for sticking with a fine wire is this type of staple will grab less of the fabric thus giving a much cleaner and neater overall look for the project. Choosing should not be too difficult and with many options available (check out Bostitch or Fasco for the de facto standards) the decision usually will depend on your budget. After purchasing one you will find many other uses than just reupholstering chairs as the staplers can be used for fixing/laying carpeting or even adapted to use regular staples thus opening the doors to practically any use.
