Ton Evaporator
hvac help. did i get the right filter drier?
i recently replaced my evaporator and was going to install a new filter drier so i contacted a manufacturer and they recommended i buy this certain filter drier. when i got it, it said it’s working pressure is 500 psig but my system’s pressure is 150 psig and the new one is twice the size of the old one. i do have certification, just not too much experience in hands on. do i need to get a different one or will it work? the old one is approximately 4 1/2 in. long, 1 3/4 wide and the new one is 16 cu. in. my system is 2 1/2 ton r22.
It will be just fine. A larger drier is not an issue. As for the WP of 500, that’s just the max WP and it will be fine. Be careful when you solder it in as most driers are copper coated steel where you solder them in and if you melt the copper coating away you probably won’t get a leak tight joint. It’s best to heat the copper line hot enough to flow solder first then bring the heat to the drier and finish the joint. Good luck.
