I’m so tired of the options for counter tops for kitchens. So expensive, is there something else out there?
Don’t have a lot of money and I love grante or marble and hate tile. Is there anything else that I have never thought of, that wouldn’t cost me a lot of money. I’m a do everything kind of person, so doing something hard does not scare me, just don’t have any different ideas. I need something clever. My style of decor is,Colonial. Need help!
I put down 1/2″ plywood for my countertop. Then take very thin plywood about 2″ wide and make a form all around your plywood countertop. You can use drywall screws to fasten it. Place chicken wire in the form and staple it below to the top of the plywood. Buy ready mix concrete. Figure how much you will need for you counter space. Mix your concrete and put in a bucket and pour small batches inside your form to not make a mess. Just keep everything level by skreeting across your form with a small board. You could put designs in your concrete. You can put die in it. You could put stamps in the surface. You could buy embossed tile, maybe 3 or 4 and alternate them pressing them into the surface. Just make sure you seal the surface with a good sealer. For a square counter top you can trim the edge with 2″ wood trim. If you want a top with curves in it. Your edge has to be poured. You will have to build an edge in your form to overlap your 1/2″ plywood. To do this you can take your left over 1/2″ plywood and build an edge by screwing your scrap to the bottom of your countertop all around the edges giving yourself a 1″ overhang all around. Then screw your thin plywood to this, but remember if you do this you will need your thin plywood to be 2 1/2″ then. If you have any questions just E-mail me. I would like 10 points. Thanks!
