lathe top and crossslide thread repair?
I have a small Myford ML2 lathe.I need the top and cross slide threads repairing.Myford no longer want to repair ML2 lathes.Does anyone know an engineer or company who would repair these for me.I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the direction of someone who could help.Thankyou for looking.
A word about lathe ‘re-builds’: old units (ML2 is circa 1940) used a lot will have the ‘ways’ out-of-level, or worn to the point of ‘dipping’ close to the chuck.
Bringing these up to spec’s can be very pricey, and takes a damn good machinist with the proper machine. A Blanchard grinder is one method, but hard to find one real big, and costly.
Better have a good lathe man go over the whole sheebang and see what all needs work; it could be well beyond your intended cost to get it working properly, and limiting repairs to one segment may not give the results you seek for fine lathe work.
