Thread Extension
Can you thread an extension cord along the ground less than a foot beneath a furnace?
I want to power a lamp that’s all the way across the room from the outlet, but to do so the cord has to go very near the heat source in the room, a Central Asian furnace. Will it be hazardous to do so?
any time you pull out an extension cord for an appliance or fixture it is wrong. extension cords are for the temporary use of tools.
This is why the NEC requires an outlet along any wall space 2 feet or more and no farther then 6 feet from the end of any usable wall space. Each outlet will cover a 12 foot length of the wall for lamp cords which are generally 6 feet long. So from your doorway in a room you need an outlet 6 feet or closer to that opening. You then need an outlet every 12 feet or closer to that outlet.
The problem with extension cords is they get stepped on, tripped over, pulled on, over heated, and misused. Leave them hanging in the garage for weekend projects as they are intended.
