Thermostatic Shower Problem?
Hi we are in the process of installing a thermostatic Tub/Shower set from the Pegasus brand at home depot. My contractor is testing the water and as the handle moves toward the hot water, it gets weaker, and at its hottest, the water is very weak. The cold water, however is very strong. We are testing it with the water coming from the spout to the tub. I have read something about a combination boiler. I believe we have just a regular round water boiler. Could this be it? Any ideas? Thanks!
Your contractor is obviously not a plumber, you have to equalise the pressure between hot and cold water, cold water is mains pressure, so, a shower pump, a feed direct from the cold water storage tank to the cold side of the shower (disconnect the mains cold from it), or as you say, a combination boiler, in uk a combination boiler has to be the condensing type for efficiency regulations, I would say a 30kw boiler, with dual temperature control (heating and hot water), this will run a 1 bathroom. 3-4 bed house with ease, and will provide about 12+ litres a minute hot water, the pressure is more equal because the combi is mains fed. I would recommend using an approved (by a manufacturer) installer from either Worcester Bosch or Vaillant. Good luck.
