Why can’t I see the North or South Poles on Google Earth?
- Not even a photo of any of the basestations – or telescopes or anything.
There is a big black Abyss where the southpole should be – and at the North – It’s just ocean – not even white snow. IR sattelites don’t need sunlight – so it’s not just “nightime there”
What’s going on? – Aparently the magnetic North pole belongs to Canada – Is that even right?
Because the satellites that take the pics aren’t in polar orbit.
Why aren’t they? Good question. Maybe it’s an economic question. Most of the interest is at somewhat lower latitudes where nearly all people live.
Pretty soon the only thing there will be at the north pole is water. Not so interesting. But I’d like to see Antarctica, too. Maybe soon?
