What type of wood finish looks better with wear?
I'm thinking about making a wooden desk output. I really need to know what type of wood and finish to use. Will receive a lot of wear and have seen some tables that are very well wear them. What should I use for achieve this effect?
I built an aquarium stand oak. Using oak boards for the slats in the front and drawer fronts. Since I have a brush that would address 24 "using oak veneer lumber (3 / 4") to the top, sides, back and (1 / 2 ") for the drawers. I trim on the upper and sand. Plasticoat coated with polyurethane. It was very good. Although not get the wear than a few drops of water here and there. The wooden top plywood may not have the wear of a desk. If I did it Adesk the same way, I would get a piece of tempered glass cut for the top. Le I recommend you choose a hardwood that is more durable and pine (a softwood) students with ease. If cost is not a problem I could by oak planks for the top, glue and plane. Sorry, but as oak, cherry wood, but wood is also exceptional. You can also use mahogany. woodworkers of old school may recommend the use of shellac or varnish. The wood needs to breathe. This, of course, personal opinion. The best of wishes
