Why is Bush pursuing the course he is?
I have heard many “explanations” – he’s a fascist trying to grab power, he’s a dolt and a tool of Israel, he’s greedy and trying to line his pockets and the pockets of his “oil buddies,” etc.
But clearly his policies are unpopular.
So why does he not just sit back, coast, let the Democrats have their way, and not court such controversy? He’s out in January 2009 no matter what – unless there’s a new conspiracy theory in the works. (Since he’s accused of riggeing the elections and blowing up the WTC, I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about him suspending the Constitution yet.) He could just fly around, make speeches about crowd-pleasing, inconsequential topics, keep a close eye on the polls, and be a popular guy! Don’t tackle the tough issues, just kick the can down the road! (Sound familiar?) Who needs the hassle?
Again, why does Bush do what he does? What’s the motive?
Because he honestly believes that he is doing the right thing and what is best for the country.
