Is it illegal for your boss to use the aduio part of a surveillance camera with out your knowledge in pa?
We have just found out that are boss is using the audio part of the surveillance camera that is pointed at the employee’s.She says that it is her business if she wants to listen in on are conversation.Is this legal in pa for her to do this? I understand the video part just asking about the audio part.Thank You
PA has a multiple of 4 separate laws covering this specific area which overlap and at times appear to conflict with each other to some degree. While it can be legally done if there is notice of such recording posted or listing in employment handbooks or by signage it could be considered illegal if it was done in an area where there was a reasonable expectation of privacy such as a bathroom or employee lounge. The specifics of your case are not listed in enough detail to advise you further.
As a general rule audio recording with or without video is usually NOT acceptable in most circumstances, where as video recording without sound is almost always acceptable. I suggest you check with company HR department or consult a employment lawyer, or union representative if you belong to one.
