Help Calculating Force From Torque On Bolt?
Is this correct?
I have a bolt diameter
d=8mm=0.008m
I apply Torque
T=10 N-m
Surface Area of Bolt Head is
A=147.7mm^2= 0.0001477 m^2
The Formula Is
F = T/(K x d) , K = 0.15 for lubed bolt threads
So F = 10 / (0.15 x 0.008) = 8333.3 N
Pressure = F/A = 8333.3 / 0.0001477 = 56.4 MPa
That looks correct if you are trying to find the theoretical bolt stress. Remember, the K correction factor is empirically derived.
