My soil is like hard mud; alkaline level was high ..now what?
Around 800 square feet, grass has not been growing well; soil seems as though it retains water; alkaline level was high, used sulfur. Now what…I want my lawn back and I need to seed over for the winter.
One answerer says to add lime, sand etc., to clay don’t do this unless you want concrete.
For short term help add gypsum and that will soften the clay quite a bit but for long term help add about 4″ to 6″ of a good compost this fall and repeat in spring and do this twice annually from now on.
your clay soil is lacking organic matter and need larger aggregates. Compost will help you out tremendously.
