Is it ok to use an oil leak stop additive?
my mitsubishi is leaking oil abit nothing serious. it’s 1999 159k miles. i don’t want to spend $$ fixing it i plan on a new car next year. so i have seen this additives at autozone, etc that stops oil leaks. are they ok to use?
I’d be careful with that stuff. It basically works by creating a “clot” where the leak is. Problem is, this property isn’t necessarily limited to just the leak, especially if you use too much of it. It can eventually create clots throughout the entire lubrication system (especially where oil passageways are small), not allowing the engine to lubricate itself properly and causing a lot of damage.
I would get it fixed correctly
