Guide To Claw Foot Bath Tubs
Many people believe you must own a Victorian period home to install a claw foot bath tub. We believe that this is absolutely not the case. The claw foot bathtub represents a timeless classic design that is the epitome of class, style and opulence. Although designed in the 1800s they are comfortable and easy to maintain.
Claw foot bath tubs are available in both acrylic and cast iron which are equally good materials for constructing bath tubs. The cast iron bath tub will have a porcelain interior with an enamel exterior that can be repainted in a color of your choosing.
The claw foot bath tub can be found in a variety of lengths and widths to include styles such as the slipper, double slipper, dual ended etc. In addition to styles and dimensions claw foot bath tubs can be found with a number of different faucet configurations to accommodate your needs such as floor mount, rim mount, wall mount and so on.

Acrylic bathtubs if they should happen to scratch or chip your bathtub, the bathtub can be restored back to new. Simply follow our recommendations below for cleaning and scratch repair.
How do I repair my acrylic tub?
Scratches and dulling can be removed with a liquid auto polish or metal polish.
Deep scratches can be removed by use of very fine damp sandpaper 1500 grit and then finishing with a liquid polish. When sanding ensure you use a small amount of water to avoid scratching the surface.
If your tub is lightly scratched, you can buff it out with polishing compound. If the scratch is deep, you can sand it down using a damp 1500 grit sand paper in a circular motion. Ensure you wet the sandpaper with water. Lastly, polish with polishing compound using a soft clean cloth with a modest amount of polishing compound.
How do I clean my acrylic bathtub
Acrylic bathtubs are a solid surface material. The color is not painted on rather it is part of the material. The tub is very easy to clean and maintain. We suggest that you use liquid dish soap or even Windex will work nicely. The use of paint thinner or any acetone to clean your bath tub as this will damage your bath tub and void your warranty.
Which is better cast iron or acrylic claw foot bath tubs?
This will greatly depend upon who you speak with. Listed below are some common arguments both the acrylic and cast iron bathtubs salesman will pose to you.
1. Acrylic Claw Foot Bath Tub Salesman Cast iron bathtubs are externally heavy and very difficult for four strong people to get upstairs.
Our View No doubt cast iron bath tubs are heavy. You must remember however, you only move a cast iron bath tub into place more than likely once in a lifetime. Don’t let a one time move deter you from purchasing a cast iron bath tub.
2. Acrylic Claw Foot Bath Tub Salesman Cast iron bath tubs are cold to the touch.
Our View No doubt will be cold to the touch when empty during the winter months. This would only be a problem if you take a bath without warm water in the bath tub. Simply remember to fill your bath tub with warm water before bathing. Cast iron is an excellent conductor of heat and will be delightfully warm when you get into your bath tub.
3. Cast Iron Claw Foot Bathtub Salesman Acrylic bath tubs are prone to flexing.
Our View We have also observed this issue cast iron bath tubs and have found that this is generally due to improper installation. We recommend that you always employ a licensed plumber to install your bath tub whether you have a cast iron or acrylic bath tub. Cutting corners can cost you more money in the end due to improper installation.
4. Cast Iron Claw Foot Bathtub Salesman Acrylic bath tubs scratch very easy.
