Skil Battery
Is it possible tp “repair” a NiCad battery? I have Skil 144bat (14.4V Battery Pack) for Skil cordless tools.?
There are ads on the internet for Repair instructions. On add talks about “reset” procedure.
Is there such a thing or should I buy a new battery?
Inside the skil 14.4v battery is 12 C cell batteries ,2/3 length, connected by a ni-cad strip soldered to the top of one battery and to the bottom of the next battery.
You can purchase new batteries on EBAY with the Ni-cad strips soldered on one end, and replace the batteries much cheaper than buying a new battery. All you need is a solder gun and some silver solder.
Use a little care taking the battery apart and removing the wires to the first and last battery that go to the drill connection.
If you decide to go to a higher miliamp battery than stock for more power, make sure you don’t go over your charger miliamp rating or it will burn out the charger.
The reset procedure works for short term use. It may last a day, or it may last a couple of months maximum. I found it isn’t worth the effort for a short term use.
