What is the difference between a single stage and two stage engine in a snow blower or lawn mower?
There is a big difference in a single stage and two stage snow blower. A single stage blower uses a single impeller to do both auging the snow and discharging the snow out the shoot. Major disadvantage in heavier snow belt areas or if the snow is wet a single stage does not perform as well as a 2 stage which uses a larger motor generally a 4 stroke over a 2 stroke (gas and oil mix ) uses two augers one to pull in the snow and another to discharge the snow out the shoot . Major advantage in wet or heavy snow conditions also 2 stage blowers are normally self propelled. As for a lawn mower there is really no two stage type you can get one that bags side discharges or mulches as a single unit as for a type of two stage mower these are generally on tractors with a power flow assist for bagging generally on decks of 52″ or more. As far as size and price go a two stage blower is usually larger and takes up more storage space and a single stage is mor compact less storage area required. Price depends on size and thrills you want. If you look at numbers on a two stage the first indicates the motor size the second is the auger width (824) 8hp 24″ auger this is the same for a single stage. Hope your ? was answered.
