How can I tell if my wheel nuts are tightened to the correct torque when using an impact wrench/rattle gun?
Is there any way to set the precise torque that impact wrenches tighten to?
If I want to use them to tighten wheel nuts how can I make them tighten to the correct torque?
there are torque specs in your owner’s manuel that will tell you what the torque poundage is supposed to be. there are tools you can use to get them to their exact specs. go to your local auto parts store and purchase a half inch drive torque wrench, set it to your vehicles factory recommended spec and read the instructions on how to use the torque wrench. its very easy to do. you might need to buy a half inch drive extension bar so you can reach the lug nuts for your wheels. or what you can also do is take the vehicle to a shop that has a mechanic that owns a set of whats called “torque sticks”, they are special tools that are used on impact guns specifically for tightening wheels. your more upscale tire shops SHOULD have a mechanic that owns a set of these tools.
