How much would a good condition standard used drum set be?
Just like a standard drum set with all the drums and cymbals and stuff.
Tricky one!
A used drumset is like a used car. You can get the best deal ever….or the worst one ever, especialy if you don’t know much about it. And like a used car, the price will range somewhere between 200$ and 2000$ !!! A good rule of thumb is to pay more or less half of what it’s worth new.
The real important thing to look for when shopping for used kits is the hardware. The cymbal stands, snare stands, bass pedal, hi-hat pedal, ect. These are the things that tends to break or wear off first, so you wanna check if they’re not to worn out or already damage.
Always a good thing to check for cracks in the bearing edge too. The bearing edge is the part of the shell where the drumhead makes contact with the wood of the drum itself. On a kit with transparent heads it’s fairly easy to see. Since drum shells are made of laminated plies of wood, check to make sure none as split.
Then comes the matter of cymbals. Wich is something to look for but always keep in mind that it’s alot less expensive to change a cymbal than to change a whole drum. Check for cracks around the edge of the cymbal, around the bell or around the hole in the bell. Like I said it’s not too bad if you end up with a cymbal you’re not too fond of since it’s fairly easy and cheap to get second hand.
Once you got your hand on your new kit first thing I usualy recommend is change the heads; best, most efficient and cheapest way to get a better sound out of your new investment.
