Ruler Calipers
Measurements & Uncertainty, ?
Okay, I have three data tables, each with values from objects that were measured using a micrometer, standard ruler, and vernier caliper. I know the l.c. of the ruler is .05cm (absolute uncertainty), l.c. of the micrometer .005 mm (absolute), and caliper is .005 cm (absolute).
From these three tables I have calculated the average and standard deviation for each set of date. Now, my question is, when I go to calculate the RELATIVE UNCERTAINTY, what number am I dividing by? (absolute uncertainty) / (some number I can’t figure out) X 100 = % relative uncertainty.

Sorry, but calculating a mean relative uncertainty requires calculation of the uncertainty of each measurement, then calculating the mean and standard deviation of that data.
