Rope Design
Should rope drums, ropes etc. of EOT cranes be designed at pull out torque of ac motor used ? If yes, why?
In my opinion, it is sufficient to design components based on the actual load lifted. It should not matter what oversize motor is used.
Yes they should this is the maximum torque required to pull the load by an overhead electric traveling crane. The traveling force or hoisting needed must be necessarily less. Normally there is a factor of safety when such cranes are designed and an electric motor is selected with a big enough starting torque to take care of that.
