Why does one ring of my electric cooker fuse the electics when turned on?
Yesterday it fused the electrics when it was turned on. Today we turned that ring on accidentally and it only fused the electrics when we turned the knob to reduce the temperature. IE, it came on but fused the electrics when we turned it down. So could it be the element or the wiring from the knob?
If it didn’t trip the power when on full, then the element is PROBABLY alright – since it only tripped when you turned it down, then it is Probably the regulator that has the fault.
HOWEVER….
It depends how the ring works.
On my cooker, the hob is regulated by switching on and off automatically to reduce the heating effect – the whole element is used but only for reduced periods. Some other hobs use different elements for temperature regulation. You should be able to tell which type you have by looking at one of the hobs that still works OK.
It would be best to have a cooker electrician look at it though, if only to confirm what you already find out – it’ll save you fitting one part just to find you need something else… and you know you’ll be safe!!!
