Ring Circlip
Should I use a retaining ring (circlip) with the smooth rounded contour or with the three points of contact?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of each kind?
Excellent answers, thank you. But none of you specified all aspects: which clip is easier to install, which clip handles more bearing stress, and the internal clip. I’ll have to put it to vote.
There really isn’t a great deal of advantage/disadvantage of one type over the other. The ‘C’ ring usually has a little more ‘bearing surface’ and the ‘E’ clip is usually a bit easier to install, but that’s about it.
