Return Rule
With the new F1 entries, will we see the return of the old 107% rule?
Julian mentioned the 107% rule in an earlier answer and it got me thinking, will it need to be reintroduced?
For those who don’t remember, this rule was in place from ’96 to ’02 and any driver who failed to lap within 107% of the pole time during qualifying was not allowed to enter the race.

I think it will depend on the fact that if there really seems to be a huge divide between “budget” and “factory” teams pace justifying it and more than 1 team that’s really off the pace.
Bear in mind in the mid 1990s a mid grid car could be say 2.8 seconds off pole and last place 6+ seconds off pole, unlike today where even Force India are well within 2 seconds.
How about pre qualifying? Mind you that was when 30 plus cars used to turn up…..
