How to trim 2″ off an old aluminum heating duct?
I have an old house where the owner left the heating duct sticking out of the wall by two inches. It looks like aluminum. I don’t want to use tin snips or any hand tools to cut it. I have a reciprocating saw–what gauge blade [TPI] is right to cut this…and do I need to oil the metal surface before I cut it? Thanks.
Its probably galvanize not Aluminum, and what is sticking out, is a Flange, to be folded back against the wall, and screwed tight, then put the Register over it. Tin snips is the best tool, a Ricip saw will only bounce around and work half a— . but you should bend it back flat and screw it to the wall, trim so the Register fits over it.
