Woodlands require a fairly large amount of rain to keep it thriving. Trees give off a tremendous amount of water during the day in the form of transpiration. This water needs to be replaced since it is also needed to carry on photosynthesis. Temperature range from below freezing in the winter to the high 90′s in the summer. A prolonged hot summer would put stress on the ecosystem especially if there is very little rain. The soil is fertile since there is a lot of dead vegetation on the ground. It is porous and can accommodate a lot of rain. The nutrients are tied directly into the soil.
