Pump Check
My check valve makes a loud bang after my sump pump shuts off. How can I fix this?
I drilled a 1/8″ hole in the flapper which helped a little bit but doesnt help if the sump fills quickly (during a rain storm etc.) I’ve thought about installing a spring check but am concerned with the durability. My pump runs quite often due to a high water table and i am worried the spring will wear out quickly. I am re piping the discharge pipe so there won’t be as much head pressure. Anyone have any other ideas??
I think you are using a swing check valve.
If you are using centrifugal pump with high discharge head then you have to follow the proper operating philosophy.
When you are stopping the pump, close the discharge valve gradually and stop the pump.This will prevent the back pressure from high discharge column head.
If the pump suddenly stops due to power failure , then you will face a loud bang.
Spring type check valve can prevent the sound with a risk of breaking of spring.
If your pump is tripping due to low level/no level , put a low level alarm. so that you can stop the pump properly.
