2001 OLDSMOBILE HARMONIC BALANCER PROBLEMS, NEED HELP !!!?
i have 2001 oldsmobile intrigue and i need to take the harmonic balancer of , there is a big set screw . now i bought a harmonic balancer tool to remove it but the harmonic balancer on my car doesnt have any holes to set up the harmonic balancer puller. now my question is with this make and model of car what is the required steps to taking this harmonic balancer off, and is an impact wrench a needed to or can ordinary 3/4″ socket, with a 1/2″ driver sufficent?
Yes you’ll need an impact driver to remove the crank bolt. With a standard wrench you will only turn the crankshaft. A more dangerous way we used to do it was to use a breaker bar long enough that it would hit the ground and then tap the ignition – (very dangerous of course)
If there are no threaded holes, then you will have to use a claw type puller.
I’d recommend getting a repair manual specific to your model if you’re going to be working on your own car.
