Is a loose electrical outlet (the plug falls out of outlet) dangerous or just a nuisance?
I live in an apartment. Management tells me to “spread the prongs apart and the electrical plug will stay in the outlet”. That really does not work well. I make do by using extension strips and a “box” that adds to the number of plug-ins to the outlet. How important is it to have the outlet replaced?
i am an electrician and i can tell you this is that you have a problem. this should be fixed fast. you have many hazards with this problem. someone could get hurt. replacing and outlet on yuour own is very simple. turn the power off to your house and then check to make sure it is off. use a light and plug it in to see if it works. cut the wires off and put them on the new outlet just like you found them. you will need sometype of wire stripper to do this. this should take you about 5 min to do. a new outlet should cost you about $.50 cents. the white wire goes on the side of the outlet with the largest prong and the black on the side with the smallest prong. you should have a bare copper or green wire and it attaches to the green screw. depending on your age of house you may not have the ground wire. no problem just hook up the white and black. just make sure the power is off. if not sure on how to turn that circuit off just turn the whole house off. double check the power still. better safe than sorry.
