If you have a car on finance that you pay monthly can you buy a personalized registration plate?
I want to buy a car for around £100 a month, but was wondering as the car is not fully yours as you’re still paying it off, are you allowed to purchase and use a personalized registration plate??
If you’re buying it on a Hire Purchase (HP) scheme, i.e. where the car belongs to the finance co. until you’ve paid it back, then you need to check your agreement, but usually there’s nothing to say that you can’t.
If you’ve bought it using a loan, then the car is yours from day one and you can do as you please.
You need to be aware that you’ll certainly lose your cherished number if the car is ever repossessed or seized by bailiffs though as the number is treated in the same way as any extras which are permanently fitted to your car such as upgraded wheels, ICE, and body kits.
