Is there a medical waiver for lowered visual acuity for becoming a fighter pilot?
If my right eye has scarred tissue in it, but the scarring is only getting better, but the vision in my right eye has been lowered a bit, is there a waiver for that if Im trying to become a fighter pilot? I heard that Air Guard units honor a waiver like that more than active duty.
I know for the air force, to get selected into pilot training your vision cannot be any worse than 20/70 uncorrected, (correctable to 20/20 with glasses, contacts etc.) I am not sure if it is the same for the Air Guard, probably is. As far as getting a waiver if it is worse than that… might be a tough thing to do. Would probably have to ask a flight surgeon about that.
