As we’ve all found out the White House was in Republican hands every single time for the last 5 recessions.
Now, let’s be fair:
Dems controlled both houses for 4 of those recessions. And one time it was split.
Now the Carter incident is not classified here because 1) growth was slow not negative, but high inflation made the slow down worse than many recessions and 2) it was largely a result of the earlier 70s recession.

Repub’s like to blame Carter for the big recession in the late 80′s but it actually started in the last year Nixon was in office (not blaming Nixon, but it’s stupid to blame Carter) Reagan borrowed heavily to support the markets
