Emergency Strobe Lights For Rescue Operations
Since strobe lights can provide a steady light as well as signal with different flash patterns, communication becomes very effective while using emergency strobe lights. Because of this, strobe lights are extensively used in rescue operations. Rescue personnel use differently sized strobe lights that do a combination of functions.
There are small emergency strobe lights where a 1.5 volt battery power of a xenon emergency strobe will be converted into a 7500 volt beacon that will be visible at a distance of three miles. Such a strobe could flash up to 60 times per minute and will have a life of 60 hours. The faster strobing effect typically lasts till 12 hours, after which it will flash with a slightly diminished effect for the remainder of the time.
There are small emergency strobe lights that can be attached to life jackets. It allows easy installation on life jackets and is operated with a pull string that can be handled without any difficulty even with gloved hands. These lights can work continuously for eight hours and its incandescent lights can be seen up to two miles under normal visibility conditions. They come in cases that are water proof, corrosion resistant, and temperature resistant. Life jacket emergency strobe lights fully meet the safety standards of International Maritime Organization (IMO).
A VIP safety light, where VIP is the short for visual identification pendant, is an emergency strobe light, which combines in it a flashlight, a beacon, and an emergency flasher. On a normal visibility night the light will be seen up to a distance of more than 3 miles on a horizontal plane, and more than 5 miles on a vertical plane when looked from above. When the light uses an LED light, the bulb life will span a couple of decades depending on its usage because an LED bulb has a life of more than 100,000 hours.
These VIP emergency strobe lights will be clearly visible both over land and sea and will be waterproof up to 300 feet. It works in three modes providing a steady light, or as a flashing signal, or SOS signal. The strobe flash rate of 140 times per minute will not in any way interfere with the user’s night vision. The SOS signaling is controlled by a microprocessor. The lithium batteries used in these emergency strobe lights allow them to be used in temperatures that are quite cold and the all purpose clip allows it to be attached to anything.
There are laser flare emergency strobe lights that can signal up to a distance of 20 miles and can operate continuously for 72 hours. The lights are rugged and weather proof since they are designed to be used outdoors and in maritime conditions. Though it is mostly used for nighttime signaling, the light works during daytime also at lesser distances. These are typically small and so can be carried with ease in life jackets and lifeboats and all types of survival kits. Emergency strobe lights are indeed great rescue workers!
