cant get oil burner to start?
I ran out of oil and just got a refill. Normally I open the release valve then hit the reset button on the burner and then the line bleeds out oil and air…once the air is out I tighten the tiny valve and the burner runs. I have followed these steps again and the burner won’t start. I checked the fuse box and have even turned the burner on and off but I still can’t get it to start. How do I get it started…I need hot water?
You may have sucked up some sediment that clogged the strainer, filter, oil line, and/or nozzle/orifice. Or the transformer may have chosen this time to fail or operate intermittently. Be careful pushing the reset button more than once if the burner doesn’t start because you can fill the combustion chamber with a lot of oil and then if the transformer decides to work again you can have an explosion.
It’s probably time to call a heating service person. They can check the transformer and other controls, set the igniter gap and replace the filter and strainer and verify proper combustion efficiency just in time for the winter heating season.
