Night Camera
What type of digital camera would work best for taking night time pictures?
We are looking for a camera that can take night time pictures without distorting or making the picture grainy.
The important factor for low light photography is pixel density (which is why DP Review now quote it).
You will find that a 6Mp APS sized sensor will perform better at low light than a 10Mp APS sized sensor.
The small sensor on a compact particularly if it is a high Mp one is the worst case scenario,
Circle of Confusions answer about star trails is a different thing, the noise you can encounter is due more to the length of time the sensor is active (10 minutes is normally a minimum for star trails) the longer the sensor is active, the more the heat builds in the sensor, the more self generated noise there is. Astro photographers go to great lengths to keep the sensor cooled and adapt cameras for these kind of shots.
