Nickel Oval
Bump under my skin.???
i have this bump that is under my skin. it is on my back near my neck. it is on the left side. it does not hurt, only a small amount when i touch it. i would say it would be the size of a nickel. it isnt a circle though, its more shaped like an oval. if this makes any sense, when i touch it it kinds moves around. not like moves to a new place but bends with where i touch it.
it is not very hard.
what do you think it is?
should i be worried?
should i see the doctor?
i think it could be a cyst but im not sure….
I would totally get it checked out just in case, you never know. If anything it’ll put your mind at ease. But it could be one of these…
Abscess Overview
An abscess is a tender, easily pressed mass generally surrounded by a colored area from pink to deep red. The middle of an abscess is full of pus and debris.
Painful and warm to touch, abscesses can show up any place on your body. The most common sites are in your armpits (axillae), areas around your anus and vagina (Bartholin gland abscess), the base of your spine (pilonidal abscess), around a tooth (dental abscess), and in your groin. Inflammation around a hair follicle can also lead to the formation of an abscess, which is called a boil (furuncle).
Unlike other infections, antibiotics alone will not cure an abscess. In general an abscess must open and drain in order for it to improve. Sometimes draining occurs on its own, but generally it must be opened by a doctor in a procedure called incision and drainage.
Abscess Causes
Abscesses are caused by obstruction of oil (sebaceous) glands or sweat glands, inflammation of hair follicles, or from minor breaks and punctures of the skin. Germs get under the skin or into these glands, which causes an inflammatory response as your body’s defenses try to kill these germs.
The middle of the abscess liquefies and contains dead cells, bacteria, and other debris. This area begins to grow, creating tension under the skin and further inflammation of the surrounding tissues. Pressure and inflammation cause the pain.
People with weakened immune systems get certain abscesses more often. Those with any of the following are all at risk for having more severe abscesses. This is because the body has a decreased ability to ward off infections.
What is a lipoma?
A lipoma is a growth of fat cells in a thin, fibrous capsule usually found just below the skin. Lipomas are found most often on the torso, neck, upper thighs, upper arms, and armpits, but they can occur almost anywhere in the body. One or more lipomas may be present at the same time. Lipomas are the most common noncancerous soft tissue growth.
What causes a lipoma?
The cause of lipomas is not completely understood, but the tendency to develop them is inherited. A minor injury may trigger the growth. Being overweight does not cause lipomas.
What are the symptoms of a lipoma?
Lipomas usually:
* Are small [0.4 in. to 1.2 in.] and felt just under the skin.
* Are movable and have a soft, rubbery consistency.
* Do not cause pain.
* Remain the same size over years or grow very slowly.
Often the most bothersome symptom is the location or increased size that makes the lipoma noticeable by others.
Cysts, Lumps and Bumps
There are a number skin conditions that cause lumps and bumps to appear on the surface of the skin or just below the skin. This article covers some of the most common ones, and includes the following:

Skin Cysts
Cysts are noncancerous, closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid, pus, or other material.
Cysts are common on the skin and can appear anywhere. They feel like small peas under the surface of the skin. Cysts can develop as a result of infection, clogging of sebaceous glands (oil glands), or around foreign bodies, such as earrings.
What Are the Symptoms of Skin Cysts?
Skin cysts usually are:
* Slow-growing
* Painless
* Smooth to the touch when they are rolled under the skin
