I replaced the tub plumbing cartridge but still have a dripping faucet?
I have a roman tub and had a drip – plumber came and took the cartridges out and told me to replace – got the replacements, but when I put them in I still have the leak (actually worse) – I tightened them as much as I could. It is newport brass 1-004 (hot). Any ideas? Should there be something else I need to add like rubber washers? How do I know it’s tight enough?
I put the old hot water cartridge into the cold water (the cold water was the dripping one) – and now the leaking has stopped – so I am thinking either I have the wrong cartridge or a defective one.
When he took out the cartridges, did he also replace the small rubber washers on springs at the very bottom of the unit plugged into the bottom of the brass fixture. On older faucets there were two parts to the internal assembly. One is the cartridge and the second is the washer/spring assembly. I just replaced both on some faucets in my house and the washer/spring is the one which controls drips. If yours is an all in one cartridge/washer unit, he needs to bring you another one and redo it as the one he used may be defective.
