Matco or Craftsman?
I’m a mechanic in training. i work at a honda dealer. i have been using craftsman tools because i cannot afford anything else. but i found out that i get a 35%-50% student discount from matco. my question is what should i do should i continue buying craftsman or should i buy matco? are these companies tools the same quality? what do you recommend?
Matco. Craftsman wont hold up under real mechanic jobs. Great way for broken knuckles. Also their warranty isnt as good as it says it is. Brake a ratchect or socket and tell them you did it at work. watch them pull out every stop and tell you how they are not covered in that manner!
Matco are half the price as Snapon and a better quality as far as I am concerned. I brake snapon ratchets all the time, have yet to brake a matco.
Matco’s warranty is excellent. Tool man was standing there one day and seen me trying to pry a tranny off a motor with a screwdriver! I pounded it in with a hammer as he was laughing at me. I pull back and snap! off went the end. He walke out to the truck and came back in and gave me a new one. tell sears you used it as a prybar and watch them say NO! Those matco tools will last you for life. with that discount, you will pay about the same you pay for craftsman now, but you will find that will be the very last time you have to buy that tool!
