Why does my CRT monitor’s picture wobble and shake?

I have a 19″ Samsung SyncMaster 955DF whose picture seems to wobble and shake. Reducing the screen resolution does not help, plugging it into a different wall socket does not help, turning off everything else near it does not help (such as speakers other CRTs and other magnetic devices), and it didn’t do this before I moved into my new apt.

This problem is a high-voltage problem in the monitor, usually the result of the fly back circuit. There are very sensitive pots (variable resistors) that control the oscillation of the fly back circuit. When moving a monitor especially if it’s an older one can jar these pots and cause sync problems in the high voltage circuit. Sometimes adjusting them will straighten out the problem for some time but this has to be done by and experienced service technician because these circuits carry a very high voltage (5000V-15,000V) and can knock you into next week if you accidentally touch something you shouldn’t touch. High humidity can also trigger this problem if the monitor was moved where there was a lot of moisture.
