Electrical Question: I have two receptacles that no longer work after I replaced another (3rd) receptacle.?
I replaced a standard two outlet receptacle with a Leviton Decora combination switch/outlet (where the outlet is controlled by the switch). There was one hot (black) wire and one neutral (white) wire that I no longer needed, so I put some electrical tape and wire nutted each of them separately. The switch I installed is working properly, but there are two other outlets that are no longer working. What did I do wrong and how do I fix this? I made sure that all the breakers are on.
Apparently, you did need the black and white wires that you taped off. They must have fed the other receptacles.
The taped off black should go on the “hot” (feed) side of the switch and the taped off white should go on the same screw as the white wire on the receptacle.
