How can those who do laser thermometers work contact?
There are thermometers that you just point them the direction of an object, press the trigger and a red light or laser (not sure if it) is issued on the subject. The thermometer then gives a reading of the temperature of the object. How it works?

The emissivity of a surface is a measure of how effective it is for the emission radiation. It is the opposite of the absorbance. As everyone knows, the black surfaces warm more quickly in the light the sun than white surfaces (by absorbance). On the other hand, the black areas cool off faster than the white surfaces (the emissivity). So if you use IR (infrared) radiation to measure the temperature of a surface at a given temperature, a black surface emit IR over a white surface. Somewhere in the implementation of the IR thermometer, there is a setting of emissivity. If you wish, you can find Guide values for the emissivity of different materials and just plug the guideline value. Some instruments really compare the two wavelengths IR different and use the difference for the calculation of the temperature. A quick and dirty to handle this problem is to put a piece of black tape on the surface and always there to pull your temperature.
