Problems with manual trunk release in 03 Accord?
the manual trunk release seems to be stuck. i can open the gas tank perfectly but when i try to pull the lever to get to the trunk it wont move at all. i can open the trunk with the keys and the lever is not lock with the key either..any suggestions on how to fix it or what could it happen?
the problem sounds like the cable to the trunk from the lever is either frozen or siezed or that the ltrunk lock mechnism (valet lock) is engaged. if you’re pulling on the opener lever and you can’t pull it up at all then the problem is most likely with the lock preventing the lever from moving. try using the key a few times to lock and unlock the lock cylinder as it may be frozen. try pulling up on the lever as you turn the key to see if that moves the lock and releases the opener. if not you’ll probably have to have the lock removed to find out where the problem is.
if the cable were seized the opener lever will usually move somewhat until the cable stops moving. you can check the cable back in the trunk to see if its bent or kinked. if the cable or lever were broken or disconnected the lever would pull up freely; that sounds like the opposite of what you describe.
sounds like a lock cylinder problem to me. you should have the lock removed to see where the problem is.
