The class of 1972, having obtained graduated in 1977, the first batch IIT-JEE, had a memorable meeting last month in the green hills of Girinagar near Pune. It was indeed an evening delicious as we remembered and revived memories of our loved student life in Benares. In retrospect, here is my song nostalgic my alma mater.

School of Engineering Benares (BENCO)
On what basis do you judge an educational institution, especially a genius College or a B-school?
In today's world there is only one criterion – market value – the starting salary and placement of students on campus to get – the more outrageously astronomical pay packages, and the percentage of lucrative campus placements – The best of the institution.
And with the increasing commercialization of education, many institutes blatantly competition, advertising, and focus on these materialistic aspects to attract students – is a very competitive rat race.
I feel in terms of educating the cardinal true merit of an educational institution is the added value it imbues his former students – and I'm not talking about the usefulness and materialistic values alone, but more importantly the inculcation and enhancement of intrinsic and intangible values higher.
The student must feel he or she has changed for the better, professionally and personally, and whether other stakeholders should observe students outside of being able to discern the recovery.
I studied for my B. Tech. Bachelor of Electronic Engineering at ITBHU 1972-1977 (first batch IIT JEE) and I experienced the most well rounded value I mentioned above.
Later in life, be willing to study, I continued to study and have completed many courses, a graduate degree in management, engineering and technology Post Graduation Mr. Premier IIT [Tech. - IIT Delhi], and worked in multiple capacities and even taught for many years at prestigious academic institutions of higher education but I still cherish my days ITBHU most.
I knew I was a better man in my whole, after passing through the doors ITBHU of, and I'm sure those scrutinizing me from the outside of the same opinion.
ITBHU was amalgamated by integrating three of the countries oldest and the best engineering schools BENCO (Banaras Engineering College) – the first in the East, and certainly in India, presenting the disciplines of electrical engineering and mechanical Minmet – the pioneer in mining and metallurgy in India and the College of Technology – the first to start chemical and ceramic engineering in India.
Indeed these three institutions pioneer in engineering education in India and were the harbingers of industrialization in our country.
Now Roorkee as the first Engineering College in India, I understand they want to rename our alma mater celebrated as an IIT. I wonder why – maybe value in the world today marks the most popular, rather than heritage value.
In my time ITBHU was indeed a center of excellence an institution able to study, and a very nice place to live in.
The majority of lush green campus semi-circular end south of Varanasi, the largest university campus, I've never seen, with its relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for student life.
And part of the first university granted a consummate experience multidisciplinary.
It was a rewarding and enjoyable I will always cherish – the learning of the learned professors and totally devoted, who were in their areas of specialization, the environment excellent academic facilities and ambience, elaborate labs and workshops, green campuses, well-designed hostels comfortable, the food delicious, large fields and sports facilities for all types of sports, swimming pool, the only well-stocked and intellectually inspiring Gaekwad Library and exquisite temple that added a spiritual dimension to the university atmosphere.
One could learn heritage and languages Foreign, fine arts, music, Indology, philosophy, yoga, pursue hobbies like numismatics – the pathways of learning have been amazing.

We had an education integral and its idyllic surroundings of BHU helped one develop a philosophical attitude to life.
Like all premier institutes ITBHU was entirely residential, which fostered camaraderie and facilitated friendships among former students. I will never forget the delicious in Dhanrajgiri, Glanders, Vishwakarma, and inns Vishveswarayya CV Raman, the memories of the mouth water and Lata Lavang Lassi in Pehelwan Lanka, Lal Peda face Sankat Mochan, Chinese at The Bella Lanka, healthy and delicious cuisine of Benares, watching movies at the picturesque and unique cinemas, walking ghats on the holy and the cycle trips across Varanasi, Sarnath, and even in the holy and sacred Ganges on the pier to watch the Ram Lila at Ramnagar.
Way back then, in the 1970s, ITBHU was a wonderful place to study engineering and years of training we live in.
I wonder what my dear alma mater is like now!
