HUNG is a brand new TV series from HBO starring Thomas Jane, Jane Adams, Anne Heche, Charlie Saxton, and Sianoa Smith-McPhee. HUNG kicks off its ten-episode first season on SUNDAY, JUNE 28 (10:00-10:45 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, followed by half-hour episodes on subsequent Sundays at the same time. Created by Dmitry Lipkin (creator of “The Riches”) and Colette Burson, the timely show uses dark humor to tell the story of a man fighting to survive personal setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy.
Ray begins a secret relationship with Jemma, leaving an increasingly frustrated Tanya out of the loop. Tanya attempts to keep her pimp hand strong by confronting Jemma at work, but winds up losing her cool and her best client. Jessica and her Dr. Ruth-resembling mom snoop through Ronnie’s files and discover he’s lost close to a million dollars in the stock market. And everyone shows up to Ray’s high school basketball game, but it’s Jemma who catches his eye and inspires him to lead his team to a come-from-behind victory.
Sure, we get that Ray digs Jemma, and that he sees her as his first shot at a real relationship since Jessica left him – but it’s also foolish for him to cross the line from business to personal relationship so quickly, and we never see him struggle with the decision to do so. I imagine this will come back to bite him in future episodes, especially considering he’s still taking her money.
If there’s one storyline that’s moving forward, it’s Jessica and Ronnie’s – it’ll be interesting to see what Jess does now that she’s begun to realize leaving Ray for this guy might have been a bad idea. Anne Heche is doing her damnedest to give this character some redeeming qualities, and her mom’s pretty hilarious too.
