Helicoil Thread
Anyone know what size tap to use to install a 2BA helicoil.?
I need to repair 1 stripped thread, and dont want to pay $70 bucks for an entire helicoil kit when I can buy 1, 2BA helicoil and a tap to suit and make an installer.

The helicoil does not match a standard thread on the outside, so you will need the matching Helicoil tap. Usually an installation tool is required to “wind” the insert slightly so it has a smaller OD and will screw into the hole and then spring tight when released.
There are other types of inserts that are made from machined metal and the outside threads match standard taps. The can be loctited in place and do not need special tools for instalation. Go to McMaster and look up “Thread Repair”.
