Hand Drill
What is a good quality drill bit?
I am looking to buy my father top quality drill bits for Christmas. Of course they would be for drilling holes into wood (with either a drill press or a power hand drill), and they need to be really heavy duty. I’m just looking for regular drill bits that are really good quality and will last a few years. Any info you can provide me on types (carbide, steel, etc.) would be great too.
If you want a GOOD set, look for cobalt. They’re expensive, but they last. Otherwise, get him a nice set of high speed steel, but along with the set get him a mulitpack of each of the more common sizes, such as 1/8″. 3/16″, 1/4″. Those are used very frequently, and would be the first to wear. Having a few extras on hand is a plus. Hope this helps.
